London in a Day

So what do you do when you only have one full day in London? You get on a Hop On Hop Off bus! We had great weather and it didn't start drizzling until we were walking back to the hotel at 7 this evening.

Today's blog will be mostly pictures but here's some observations made by Jeff and I  about London:

-The London Underground is VERY far underground, at least 12-17 stories deep! It's also very small and warm and claustrophobic. We only took it once just to say we did.

-There are SO MANY languages spoken around here! New York is quite the melting pot but I think London has it beat.

-We have observed at least 3 different disturbing cases of older men with much younger girls/women.

- As continues the trend, lots of shops closed much earlier than I would assume in one of the largest cities in the world.

- Lots of tourists using the Hop-on/Hop-off bus as their primary means of transportation, which seems... not ideal. Not even paying attention to the sights, just kinda... transit'ing.

- The river Thames used to be almost three times wider than it currently is. Neat and weird.

- There are a lot of tourist souvenir shops, but unlike NY they have vastly different quality and selection. This seems like a better system.

- Lots of businesses shuttered in Buckingham and Victoria. I'm gonna blame austerity measures and thereby the Tories. Tories are bad for business, you heard it hear.

- We've some how made it 4 days in England without any fush or chups. Plenty of ramen, though.

And now on with the photos! I'll do my best to pick the absolute minimum and the best of the best!

We're on (another) bus!
It just didn't seem large enough for Peter and Wendy and all to sit on. Or Sora...

This is NOT the London Bridge. It's the Tower Bridge!

Thank you horse for kicking and biting.

Fantastic Mr. Fox needs to make a phone call.

Damn squirrels chewed through the phone lines again!

Yeah, I'm cool in this room of artifacts that were all totally donated and none stolen at all by the British Museum.

Whatcha doin'?

A woman was antagonizing a goose and I was secretly cheering on the goose.

Moorhen please!

Is it a hummingbird? Is it a moth? It's a hummingbird moth!

What are you looking at SWAN?

All these birds and this cottage are at St James park. This is Duck Island Cottage built by William III in the 1730s

I am duk. Feed bread. Live on Duck Island now. Quack.

And this concludes our whirlwind, one-day adventure of London. I have just received an email from our tour bus, Rabbies Tours, saying our tour guide is sick and they are fresh out of guides to they're gonna have to "source a hire vehicle" to take us to Aberystwyth and cut out day one of the tour? Sooooo.... hm. I guess we'll see what happens. I got to see birds today so I'm content. All we can do is just go with the flow man, like a duck.
