Hello England, when's bed time?
So our long journey started yesterday at CVG with our first flight to JFK, at 2:30. At the time of writing this is is now 12:55pm in the afternoon back in the states and 5:55 pm (5 hours later) here in Manchester. Of course no one gets a good sleep on airplane rides (at least not economy they don't), so Jeff and I are running on being awake 30-ish hours! But we MUST STAY AWAKE or else jet lag will ruin everything!
So what does one do when they land in Manchester at 8:00 in the a.m.?
First you land in fog as thick as pea soup/jelly brains
You walk around this city with it's one lane roads, some cobblestone, and one-person-wide sidewalks and do your best to distract yourself.
You drop off your luggage to be held at the hotel you can't check into for another 5 hours.
You enjoy the neo-gothic architecture of the John Rylands Library and pretend you're in Hogwarts, or dream of having the coolest place ever to play D&D at!
You visit the statue of Abe Lincoln that is an exact replica of the one we have in Cincinnati! "Unwanted Abe" as Jeff says, as we already had one so they gave the replica to Manchester for their effort in the war to abolish slavery.
You visit Manchester's little Chinatown and decide to order Wagamama's to eat in the hotel room that's finally ready.
Then you finally finish the first official blog post, but not after your eyes started drifting close every other paragraph.
So with that, I'm going to hand the tablet over to my witty husband who always has something fun to say about the day's adventures. Take it away Jeff!
"Me sleepy," Jeff, probably.
Angie definitely handled the majority of it, but here are some of my observations out of context.
"Oh, wow. It's just like in The Langoliers!"
"Is every single bar in Manchester owned by Waterstones? Yes. Apparently."
"A GB News advertisement on a bus? I didn't know the Tories supported public transportation."
"I know I'm officially back in the UK when the first restaurant I see off the plane is Pret A Manger."
"That guy looks like Daniel Radcliffe in a Mario Brothers cosplay!"
"Why's this Pumpkin Spice Chai Latte taste like pumpkin? Do they make it differently here?"

Time to keep not going to sleep for several more hours. Y'all have fun and we'll do this all again tomorrow.
And there you have it folks. Have a great rest of the day!

Omg super cool library and I'm going to have a really hard time not referring to Lincoln as anything other than 'unwanted Abe' in the future.
ReplyDeleteYes! I love these old, gothic libraries that are basically book cathedrals. So beautiful! And so many carved wood and stone decorations. Everything is a stylized flower or critter!
